Boys Youth

Boys Youth

Our boys youth rugby programme continues to grow each season with strong numbers, dynamic coaching, and a clear pathway from minis to competitive youth rugby. Many of our senior men’s players started here and have stayed with the club through the ranks.

Team for 2024/25:

  • U13s – boys born 2012

Our U12s and U13s share coaches and training sessions. Exact teams vary season to season based on player numbers and competition formats.

What to Expect

  • Weekly training with IRFU-certified coaches
  • Regular matches in the Connacht Youth Leagues
  • Club-run and provincial blitzes and development days
  • Emphasis on skill development, teamwork, discipline and game understanding
  • Player-first environment: everyone plays, everyone improves

Our coaches work to ensure boys develop technical rugby skills, resilience, communication, and respect,  values that apply on and off the pitch.

Match & Travel

Our youth teams regularly host and travel for fixtures across Connacht and occasionally further afield. Recent seasons have included:

  • Home games at Clonfert Avenue and new dressing rooms on the way for player welfare
  • League matches against clubs from Connaught
  • Travel for cup fixtures and interprovincial blitzes

Player Development & Safety

We introduce contact rugby gradually, with clear guidance on technique, positioning and player welfare. All youth players are coached to:

  • Tackle safely and effectively
  • Understand positioning and role-specific skills
  • Build match awareness
  • Take responsibility for their preparation and teamwork

All coaches are Garda vetted, IRFU-trained, and follow current best practices for concussion protocols and first aid.

New Players Welcome

We welcome lads at every age level, every season. You don’t need to have played before. You don’t need to know the rules. You just need to turn up and give it a go.

Sponsor

Our boys’ rugby programme  is proudly supported by Renew Pharmeauticals, whose backing helps us provide opportunities for boys  from U12  . Their support reflects a shared belief in the power of rugby to build confidence and community. https://ultragreen.ai
